2024 Winter Solstice at Yoga Room
Join us for a powerful closing-of-the-year ritual through the traditional practice of 108 Sun Salutations.
This moving meditation invites you to honor nature and the shift of the seasons with the Winter Solstice - the longest night of the year and the symbolic rebirth of the light.
The number 108 holds deep significance across Yogic, Buddhist and Vedic traditions:
108 energy lines (nadis) converge in the heart and/or 108 vital points (marmas).
There are 108 upanishads (sacred texts).
The average distance from the Earth to the Moon is 108 times the diameter of the Moon.
Buddhists recognize 108 earthly temptations or defilements of the mind. Temple bells are rung 108 times at the end of each season to overcome these temptations.
You can expect to release stuck energy from the body, ignite inner fire (tapas) while realigning with purpose and clarity.
The practice is accessible to all levels and ideally sustained by practitioners of every background, especially advanced students and teachers who navigate continuous energetic exchange throughout the year. You may complete all 108 Sun Salutations or move at your own pace, pausing to rest whenever needed. The focus is on intention, rhythm, sensation and collective energy, rather than physical alignment.
